WB 9.1.23 - Team 3

Date: 13th Jan 2023 @ 6:03pm

Hello!

We have had a big focus on presentation and handwriting this week. We are so pleased for those children who have been awarded a handwriting pen in recognition of their efforts. It was also lovely to see how genuinely pleased for their friends the children were when pens were being given out. We will continue focus on handwriting as we are 'chomping at the bit' to hand out more over the coming weeks.

In English, we have continued with our book 'Stone Age Boy' and have looked at the effect of adding prefixes an suffixes onto root words. We learned that adding the suffix 'er' is called a comparative e.g. brighter and that adding 'est' is called a superlative e.g. brightest. We used these in sentences to enhance our descriptive writing. We have also learned how to punctuate speech by using a 'speechmark sandwich' to help us remember. We then had a go at writing some dialogue between the two main characters in our book.

In Maths, we have continued to learn about mulitiplication and division and their realationship (we call it a multiplication and division family). Please support your children with learning their times tables. We are focusing on 4s and 8s currently. By now, they should know 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s securely. TTRockstars will help them with this.

In science, we continue to learn about 'rocks' and this week, we carried out an investigation to see which rocks are the hardest. The children had a great time conducting a fair test test and concluded that sandstone was definely the crumbliest rock that they were testing. They went onto consider which rock they would choose to make a Stone Age weapon from by considering their findings.

We welcome Miss Morris to the Team 3 class from Monday. She is very excited to get started and has been popping in and out to get familiar with the children.

Have a wonderful weekend.
