Happy New Year!

We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and managed to get some quality time with your family and friends. We welcomed the children back on Wednesday and gave them the opportunity to share their Christmas highlight with the class. It was lovely to hear them talk enthusiastically about their Christmas break and listen respectfully to their friends sharing theirs. We have finally finished our class novel 'A Boy Called Christmas'. The children loved this book and have listen attentively during our class story time. We will begin 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes next week.

In our writing lessons, we will be using a book called 'Stone Age Boy' as a stimulus. This links nicely to our history topic which begins at the Stone Age period in time. We looked at some interesting artefacts and made predictions about our next topic before all was revealed. I was impressed by their skills of deduction. The children have been tasked with finding out a fact about the Stone Age to share with the class on Monday. I have already had some brought into me this morning - that's organised! In geography, we have continued to study the UK. We looked at Google Earth to locate Helsby, then drilled down even closer to Denbigh Close to find our school. The children were really interested in using this so perhaps they could use it at home to find their street. The children were tasked with trying to recreate the outline of the UK using wool (it's trickier than it sounds!). In science, we have started a new topic all about rocks and this week have learnt how some of the different rocks are formed. We then used magnifying glasses to look carefully at the rocks and drew them and described them.

A reminder that PE has now been moved to Tuesday afternoons, so please ensure that the children come into school wearing PE kits that day going forward.

Have a great weekend.
