A truly amazing Celts-inspired week!

On Monday, Team 5 learned about the historic geography of Helsby and the surrounding area. We were fascinated to learn about the effects of glaciation and how they formed the River Mersey. We couldn't believe that, during Celtic times, the Mersey extended right up to Helsby Hill. We learned how this would have affected the lives of the Celts and how their lives differed from ours, from what they ate to what they wore.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we joined in with our whole-school Living History Project. We enjoyed a plethora of incredible hands-on activities that helped us to learn all about the Celts lives. Some of the activities were: spark-making, iron forging, archaeology through digging up and analysing a (fake!) skeleton, making pigeon, rabbit and vegetable stews (including plucking feathers!), singing a Celtic rap, archery and making bread from seeds. Phew!

On Thursday we wrote diary entries to record some of our learning, and on Friday we visited the cinema to watch 'Zootropolis'. After returning to school, we had a very interesting discussion about stereotyping and its harmful effects.

What an incredible week!

Next week's Mouse Mania is dodgeball.

Have a great (and restful!) weekend!
