What a busy first week back after the Easter break!
In English, we continued reading our class text 'When The Giant Stirred'. We read up to the section where the islanders had to flee their home because of the warning from their chief. As they sailed away, the volcano then exploded causing huge damage as well as also causing a tidal wave! The children pretended to be islanders who had fled their home and wrote letters to their families about what they had seen and heard.
In maths, the children started a new unit all about money. They learnt all about the different coins that we have in circulation. They then used their prior learning of decimals to help them add different values of coins together. Once complete, they then applied this learning to a range of everyday word problems that they may encounter when handling money. The children also completed their weekly times table challenge.
In our afternoon learning, the children completed their first PE session with Cheshire Cricket. The children learnt how to correctly catch and learnt a range of different positions in order to help them prepare to catch balls moving at different speeds. In geography, we learnt all about the different landscapes around Europe (e.g. mountainous, flat etc) and drew pictures of what these landscapes look like in given countries. In DEAR time, the children had the opportunity to continue reading their selected books and finally in RE, the children began learning all about their new focus faith this half term which is Islam.
Just a couple of reminders:
- Please ensure reading records and books are returned on Monday so they can be checked/swapped.
- Don't forget that this half term our PE day is Monday so please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on Monday.
The children have chosen their Mouse Manias for this half term. They have chosen the following:
Friday 26th April - Dodgeball (nothing needed)
Friday 3rd May - Colouring (nothing needed)
Friday 10th May - School IPads/Laptops (nothing needed)
Friday 17th May - Bikes and scooters (either a bike or a scooter and a helmet)
Friday 24th May - Movie and sweets (sweets/snacks need to be brought in)
