This week in Team 3...

The start of the new term brought with it some very energetic and enthusiastic children. It was lovely to see and hear them share their holiday experiences so on Tuesday we used this energy to develop some short burst writing in English.

At the start of the week the children wrote a recount about their Christmas holidays with a success criteria we all developed together. After the writing process the children then continued to develop their editing skills by checking over their Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. The use of a dictionary, to check over unknown spellings, is an ongoing objective and they used their recount to practice this important skill. At the end of the week was a very exciting lesson. The children were visited by the book character 'Traction Man' who asked for help in capturing a wanted kitchen utensil criminal. The children went on a hunt for this naughty character and discovered clues aroun school. We then thought it would be a great idea to develop a naughty character of our own to use in our story writing.

In Maths, we went over some place value objectives from the start of the year before moving onto our Team 3 multiplication and division objectives. The children are discovering the link between the two calculations and understanding that it requires the 'Inverse Operation' to switch between the two.

Our afternoons have been spent introducing our new, exciting topic of 'The Ancient Egyptians'. The children have discussed what they already know and have also told me what they would like to find out, The topic is always a highlight and we look forward to discovering more about the ancient Egyptian culture and their customs.

That's all for this week.
