Team 1 - WB 5th May

Date: 8th May 2025 @ 12:01pm

We hope you enjoyed a nice bank holiday weekend.

This week in Team 1, we have been learning all about fractions. We have learnt how we can split shapes and numbers (even numbers) into halves and that this means sharing equally into 2 parts. We then moved onto quarters and learnt that one half is equal to 2 quarters. We also learnt that there are 4 quarters in 1 whole. We used paper, cubes and whiteboard work to help us understand more.

In English, we started our new book called 'Toys in Space' by Mini Grey. All we know so far is that some toys were left outside one summer's night for the first time ever and they get beamed up into space. We have yet to learn what happens next! We thought about how the toys may feel when they got abandoned for the first time and watched a film clip from Toy Story to help us empathise. We revisited the prefix 'un' and added these to root words to generate words such as 'unhappy' and 'unloved'.

Elsewhere in the curriculum, we had an assembly on Thursday morning to mark VE Day. We learned why it is important to remember this day and the kind of celebrations and activities that take place across the country to mark the event. In PE, we welcomed Helsby Tennis club and enjoyed a wonderful taster session with them. In RE, we continued to learn about Islam and this week have focused more on the prophet Muhammed (pbuh). In science, it was great to get outdoors and explore our school grounds whilst we did a nature walk. We looked for seasonal changes such as flowers emerging and trees changing.

Today, we say goodbye to Mrs Coman-Jones who goes on maternity leave. We will all miss her very much and can't wait to meet baby Coman-Jones when he arrives. We wish her all the best on this exciting time in her life.

Have a great weekend.
