What a pleasure it has been to welcome your wonderful children back to school after the holidays! We are all so impressed with their ability to settle in to a new classroom environment and work with new staff. We have loved getting to know them all even better since our transition day, and they have enjoyed sharing their summer diaries with us and their friends.

The children have enjoyed getting stuck into their new room and outdoor classroom. We have been updating Twitter with photos of our first week back, so be sure to check out our feed @HMillSchool regularly.

Our main focus this week has been settling the children into new routines. We have used the book ‘The Colour Monster’ to help us recognise and name our feelings and emotions. We have been exploring maths resources using our knowledge of numbers to 10. We have been practising our reading skills and using our phonics knowledge with activities and games.

All children have been assessed in their reading this week and will begin to bring home reading books in their book bags next week. It would be so beneficial to their reading if you are able to read with your child every day. This does not need to be for a long time, a few minutes can be enough to drastically increase their sound recognition, fluency, and vocabulary. Reading a range of books to children is also highly recommended to expose them to reading with expression, and to a range of vocabulary. It is also a lovely bonding time.

Team 1, you definitely deserve the weekend off. We hope that you spend it having more fun and probably sleeping lots after a busy week.

See you on Monday, superstars!

Mrs Weeks, Mr Flaherty and Miss Thomas.
