Good Afternoon everyone,
What an incredible week watching our chicks hatch! The children have been so engaged and excited and have loved every minute of it. The eggs arrived on Monday, where we had to keep them in the incubator so they stayed warm. We watched and waited. On Wednesday morning, we came into school to a chick that had hatched and we then watched 4 more chicks hatch into the world throughout the day. The children were so fasincated by the process and how the chick cracks the egg with their beak and uses all their energy to hatch out of the egg. They enjoyed seeing which part of the lifecycle the egg/chick was at. By Thursday afternoon, we had 10 chicks - all 10 eggs had hatched!!
We learnt how to look after the chicks and care for them. We made up their bed inside the brooder box, warmed it up for them with the light and got their food and water ready. We then moved them over 2/3 chicks at a time.On Friday we got to hold them - see the pics on Twitter/X. The chicks are going for a weekend sleepover and then they will be back all next week for us to look after. It's been such an incredible learning experience for our children!
Hope you're having a great weekend.
See you on Monday,
Mrs Davies
