Team 4 Wb 5.2.24

Date: 10th Feb 2024 @ 3:40pm

What a busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English learning this week, we continued reading our class text ‘Escape From Pompeii’. We read that once the volcano erupted, our two main characters Liv and Tranio headed to the docks and escaped on a boat owned by a Greek merchant. We then explored what happened to Pompeii in the hours after the eruption and learnt all about the multiple pyroclastic currents that formed with the final one hitting the town and destroying it! We plotted how the main characters would have felt watching these events occur from the boat in preparation to start writing our very own stories next week.

In maths, we continued exploring fractions. We learnt how to add fractions and write these as improper fractions. We then learnt that we could simplify these answers multiple times to create a mixed number. We then applied this learning to a range of word problems and real life scenarios.

In our afternoon learning, some of the class went to Young Voices whilst those who didn’t participated in our next violin lesson. We also completed our weekly times table challenge, learnt about Boudicca and her rebellion against the Romans in history, in PE we played dodgeball and we also used Google Maps to explore Pompeii in geography comparing it to the North West of England looking at similarities and differences in both human and physical features.

A couple of reminders for the week ahead:

  1. Please can children bring in their reading books and records on Monday so they can be swapped.
  2. Mouse Mania this week is playing in the woodlands with Mrs Hulse. Please ensure your child has a warm coat as the forecast is a bit mixed!

Have a lovely weekend Team 4!
